Between the lamp post and every gardener on PEI we all have been looking for the sun for some time.

Look what crept around the corner

the sun creeps around the cornerstone

It is a welcoming sight to see for sure

across the pond

It was convincing, stretching across the pond. Something triggered my mind to when the kids were little and I had to wake them early to go to work, they would stand stretching with their eyes still closed.

Here on PEI we have had to stretch from the Winter months, and it seems this is the day to start.

Good Morning Susan

Around the garden tea pots mark the path of a garden tour

Come for tea!

That is my way of saying, “come sit awhile,”  enjoy what little time life has to offer.

Have a wonderful day my friends.

I’m sure you have heard by now that for the better part of May and the last 31 days we have had some amount of rain every day.  So when we undertook the job of replacing our deck outback we didn’t know that most of the work would be done in the rain.  In fact I have waited for a sunny day to show off the deck and get a good picture.  That day did come we had a gorgeous day of it and we were so excited about it that we took off beach combing and I forgot to get that sunny deck picture.

This is how it all began, bricks, and patio stones

bricks and patio stones

More of the same, they are almost removed and so are we.  Thank you Matthew for showing up and lifting the last 40 or so stones.

Removing lamenting and Complaining

I don’t think there is much change here, I think I was trying to get out of work by taking another picture.

more of the same

We hung tarps over top of the pergola and worked into the rain. This is the starting of the laying and leveling.

laying and leveling

The last 8 feet will have to wait…the rain got too heavy and we left the rest for the next day.

work goes on

This is it, complete, all 966 screws and the last we put in laying down on the job.  It is amazing how your old knees just can’t work as hard as you are able to.

ready for a deck dance

Today the deck is complete.  It looks so nice, we are thinking of taking it all around the house,  but that will be a job for next year.

Next we start on the pergola

As you can see the brick and patio stone continues around the deck.  This is another angle.  We had a bird feeder on the left post under the wisteria and the bird poop was getting on the deck so we put the post up 5 feet away in the garden, you can see a bit of the birch bark from the back of it.

A step up

This is the step up, isn’t she a beauty? And just my size…

Well the next time the sun shines and I have the tables set for tea on the deck I’ll be sure to have a picture up on the blog.  For now you can see the deck is still wet.  Onto the next project a walkway out front, oh boy there is always something to do in the Spring time.
