Remembrance Day – Their Day

 November 11,
We remember the members of armed forces who died in the line of duty

The Red Poppy has become a familiar emblem of Remembrance Day due to the poem “In Flanders Fields”  These poppies bloomed across some of the worst battlefields of Flanders in the World War 1. Their brilliant red colour an appropriate symbol for the blood that was shed during war.

If you stop by my garden on any given day in July and August you can see some of the largest poppies you have ever come across.  We have poppies are large as small watermelons.  We have about 4 of them under our sign on Highway 2 and it is nothing for people to stop and take pictures.

You think these are amazing!

These purple poppies are in my vegetable garden.  I don’t know where they came from.  I have never seen a purple poppy.  I asked Google about purple poppies and they said it is associated with acidic soil, sweet soil.

Deep Purple and appear to be double

Tomorrow 6 of them will be open.

I will be back in the garden tomorrow.  I have already taken 3 orders for poppy seeds and if anyone would like some just send me an email with your address and I’ll pop them into the mail for you.
