The Red Hat Ladies of Prince Edward Island come for tea at Grandma’s
I had the privilege of hosting a most recent Red Hat Tea, I can say the ladies do have fun in their hats. These ladies meet on a regular monthly basis, with other members, and friends and head out for a monthly meet up. This Red Hat outing took place a Grandma’s Afternoon Tea Room. The ladies wore beautiful red hats, purple feather boas, frilly purple stockings, red satin laced gloves, the shoes, the hats & clutches, and lots of beads.
Laughing & giggling filled the room, as they reminisced the details of their last get-together, each taking their turn greeting with respect, care and love for each other. They listen attentively to each other with genuinely interests in what each lady had to say. They exchanged and updated each other on new information, family and friends and laughed between sipping tea never spilling a drop. I truly believe, one common thread, “a red hat”, connected them as friends, family, sisters and close kindred spirits.
I listened as I prepared the final touches on their tea cakes and sandwiches, the stories they tell. I want to be one. I wanted to put on a hat and sit at their side. Perhaps it was because it took me back to yesteryears, memories of my grandmother, or was it just that they are a group of ladies with invested red power communicating and sharing special times with friends?
It was a special day for all and a wonderful afternoon tea they said they would never forget.
I have a small collection of Red Hat Memorabilia in the gift shop, and over the Winter I plan to increase my stock.
Thank you for the lovely afternoon ladies,
xo,
cindy
