Living life under a hat, how about that

This is my newest, biggest hat making decision I’ve had to make in a long time. It is a Havisham Steampunk Top Hat. I walked into the shop yesterday and left without it, I couldn’t stop thinking about it, however it was very expensive Just for a hat.  I couldn’t make up my mind so I posted a link to the hat on Facebook and asked my FB friends to tell me what they thought.  Read some of the comments (bottom) below

Our Tea Room opened in May of 2003 and I have always had hats for the ladies to wear while having afternoon tea at Grandma’s Tea Room, or find us on Facebook.    I have always worn a hat that was big and out there, but then I have another hat that is red that I wear as my facebook profile picture.  Another one that is black that I wear for my Avatar on my Hat’s and Hospitalitea blog.

I love hats and now that I’ve turned 50 I feel like wearing a hat any old day for no good reasons

I got this one for when I’m shopping and need to barter with the store owner

I got this brown hat just for fun, a cowboy style Fedora

What is it about a hat?

Well you can go days without styling your hair (I’m getting my nerve up) wait for it…

A hat makes you feel like a different person each time you put another one on

Ladies in our tea room feel Victorian wearing a hat

My grand-daughters love to play dress-up with hats

Big girls just want to be young again and wearing a hat does that to a women

Distinguishing when worn correctly

Worn to cover a receding hair line

Boosts your confidence

Stylish when it matches

Makes you feel important

It certainly changes your attitude

You can wear the same dress over and over just change the hat, no one will know

An ensemble without a hat is just an outfit

And finally, if you are having a bad hair day… Put on a hat no one will ever know

Wait for it…..

Wait for it…..

Wait for it……

That’s why I wear a hat, imagine that under a hat

Have a good week my friends, xoxo Cindy

Below are the 40 some comments my Facebook friends left me on FB while we were driving from St. Augustine Florida to Orlando today.

life is about having fun, fun after 5o or anytime

  • June Howatt, Marlo Dodge, Sherry Stephens-Peskett and 6 others like this.
  •
June Erlandson: O me O my you will need to make a LOT of scones to pay for this!
  •
Alex Cline: I love it. I would not be able to leave it behind it is so unique and well thought out
  •
    • Cindy At Grandma’s TeaRoom: I know eh!, I have been back twice to try it on. I still can’t make up my mind, I wish it was as easy as yup its mine, what do you think?
  •
Alex Cline: Well it is definitely an evening hat. I’m sure most of your hats are day hats so that is a justification lol.
  •
Victoria Vivaraies: This is an awesome hat
  •
Debbie Anderson Crowther: I would have a very hard time paying that much for a hat. I guess the main thing is how much do you want it and can you afford to pay that much. If you are comfortable with the price go for it. If you think you will have buyers remorse give it a pass. Have you checked E-Bay?
  •
    • Cindy At Grandma’s TeaRoom: Thanks Debbie, I did check Ebay and had a fit when I found out that the hat sells for no less than $319
  •
Victoria Vivaraies: I didn’t see the price till now… wow
  •
Jennifer Vivaraies Foust: OMG mom you cant leave it and you cant take money to your grave! spend it while you got it and enjoy it!
  •
    Debbie Anderson Crowther: WOW!!!!
  •
Jennifer Vivaraies Foust: this also kinda looks like kinky lingerie type hat…….what the hell go for it youll never find another. offer $250 cause its in your blood to do it and walk away with it
  •
    • Cindy At Grandma’s TeaRoom: Just a minute Jennifer, no where did i say i was getting a kinky offer or that it was part of lingerie. Back up, I was thinking this hat with the black dress, however it would be during the day to wear and Alex is right it is an evening hat. I don’t even have a coin to flip. I don’t think I’m going to sleep a bit all night just thinking about it. I hate that I can never buy myself something, however don’t think twice if it is for someone else.
  •
Jennifer Vivaraies Foust: the leather zig zag straps and lace make it look kinky buy the damn thing for me then…….ill put it in the rv for you to take home by accident!
  •
    Jennifer Vivaraies Foust: Problem solved!
  •
Jennifer Vivaraies Foust: you can wear it to Victoria Vivaraies wedding with the dress and shoes it would go great!
  •
Debbie Anderson Crowther: Steampunk Hats at Amazon

Amazon.com Clothing offers a huge selection of clothing for Women, Men, Kids & B…See More
  •
    • Cindy At Grandma’s TeaRoom: It was for the tea room, don’t give your sister a heart failure, if she thinks I’m wearing this to her wedding she may hold back on the invitation to me, now stop that.
  •
    • Cindy At Grandma’s TeaRoom: Debbie, what did you find, I’m going to look brb
  •
Jennifer Vivaraies Foust: I’m just looking for an evening type event where you can wear it
  •
Debbie Anderson Crowther: It’s not exactly like what you found. I googled Steamtrunk hats. There are LOTS of links I just looked at a few. Good luck! We Red Hat Tearoom ladies have to stick together!
  •
    • Cindy At Grandma’s TeaRoom: Debbie, this is costume not a HnH and ya, I didn’t find this one
  •
Debbie Anderson Crowther: Google the exact name of what you are looking for. I copied and pasted the name you put in the post.
  •
    • Cindy At Grandma’s TeaRoom: I did that hours ago Debbie, and I got links, however I’m checking out the name of the hat and it is a handmade Head’n Home (HnH) hat. I need a glass of wine.

  •
Sherry Stephens-Peskett: I say “Buy It”! Be good to yourself Cin. ….you are worth it! oxox
  •
Jennifer Vivaraies Foust: now you can get one for each dress you bought!
  •
June Erlandson: All the money you have saved “Walmarting” will help pay for it! Save a lot spend a lot… life is short! Can you stop on the path north and not appear as anxious to the sales person!????
  •
Suzanne Hewlett: Beautiul, you must own that
  •
Charlene N Derry Wakefield: it is awesome..if you love it buy it, regret is not cheap! ps can’t you write it off as a business expence?
  •
Margie Villard: Cindy At Grandma’s TeaRoom I’m so not a hat person but this is something even I would wear – love it and I think after the year you’ve had you deserve to treat yourself to something that makes you feel fabulous. Maybe you need to go back and take a photo of you wearing the hat
  •
    Ruthie Ellsworth:

i love it ,i love hats
  •
Lori Pearce: Cindy – treat yourself!
  •
Janet Murphy: Like you say, you never really buy anything for yourself so I say if you can afford it, go for it!!!
  •
June Howatt: Oh my what a cute hat, like Janet said if you can afford it, you know what to do.
  •
Janus Wilson: Sometimes you’ve just gotta splurge and treat yourself. I say go for it. You know you’ve got a place to wear it, unlike many people.
  •
Janus Wilson: Here’s another thought: It’s expensive if you think of it as just a hat but it’s reasonable for a piece or art, which this little beauty is.
  •
Jennifer Vivaraies Foust: ok mom it is past when the store opened did you buy the hat I gotta know! I want a pic of you in it come on we are all waiting the girls love the hat and I do too cant wait to see it!
  •
    • Cindy At Grandma’s TeaRoom: I’m in tears, I’m so grateful and blessed that I have such a lovely supportive bunch of FB friends. You have encouraged me into treating myself. Yes I have a picture, wait, wait, watch for it, I hope you love it. Everyone who posted before this will have to join us for a Special Easter Tea in April.
  •
Lori Pearce: Well – what is the result? To buy or not to buy.

It’s a special day when you have the opportunity to celebrate 5 girls birthdays all on the same day.

We spent the day on Saturday making hats for our party while mommy was at work.

The girls make party hats for the big day

shells, seeds, sea glass, and paper when into making these hats

We finished all 5 party hats

Then on Sunday it was the party day.  We  had cake, ate tacos, and played with our loot bag findings.

Makayla enjoying her taco

Time for cake

Happy Birthday Cake

We all got a set of teeth in our loot bags and changed them out for our own, have a look.

Looks like Makayla drank all the pink out with her teeth still in and had a spill

Annie got a new set of teeth in her loot bag

Grandma got a set also

It was a fine day and a good party celebration and Emily spent the next two days still in the party mood.

"Ah cuutte"

Then Monday it was back to the chopping block, back to school, back to work, back to the routine.

Mommy and her hat

Thanks for stopping by our party.

xo,

cindy
