If you are between 8 and 28 years old you have heard someone wiser, older, and smarter telling you “I remember when”.
When I was your age…. “I walked for miles to school in blinding snow.” “Couldn’t afford new shoes hell no, we put cardboard in the soles.” “Did you know for a quarter you could get a bag of chips and a chocolate bar”. “And stamps were 3¢ each a letter was 3¢ and a postcard was less to mail.”
Ya well, we don’t get as much snow anymore, cardboard doesn’t come with the same quality because everyone has cut back and the Queen’s picture on the 3¢ stamp was a young lady.
I do remember when dad would put the trailer and ski-do onto the back of the truck and we would head to the bush each year and get a Christmas Tree, the old fashioned way. I remember when I was so cold that mitts didn’t keep my hands warm, the snow was deep and often got a ski-do stuck but at the end of the day we had a real tree.
This is the first year I put ribbon on the tree. It looks like a festive season around here.
